History of MFS Consulting
MFS Consulting was founded by Dexter P. Morgan II and the MFS stands for Morgan Family Services. The company was founded in 1997 and initially a credit counseling service. At that time Dexter was working as a Mortgage Broker working with mostly C and D rated paper (poor credit) and he wanted a way to be able to help the clients that he had to turn away. Initially the company name was Magical Financial Solutions and Dexter was able to assist clients in gaining financing after 6 months to 1 year after following his plan. The business name was changed to Morgan Financial Services in 1999 after branching out beyond credit counseling to affordable point of sales solutions for commercial businesses.
In 2002 Dexter began a windshield repair company Magical Windshield Repair, which was set up as a sub company of what had become the MFS brand. In an attempt to slow down and spend more time at home, after the birth of his second child, the windshield repair business was sold in 2005.
Between 2005 and 2010 MFS grew into MFS Consulting and focused on small and mostly home-based business owners that were in the need of professional and affordable business planing, marketing services and website design. This came after helping friends that were starting a new business. They were being gouged by so called business consultants and one MBA for out dated text book advice, which might work on Wall Street but not on our streets. Out of frustration this became a calling for Dexter to be able to help as many small business owners that he could at very affordable rates.
Today
The transition into Local Mobile in 2010 was a very natural one for MFS Consulting, there marketing focus had always been on local business finding local customers with the help of technology and affordable marketing methods. Dexter was an early pioneer of local search, before Google and others stood up and took notice. He knew early on that local companies had no business competing on the internet with national chains or national run internet marketing campaigns. Local businesses need local clients and do not need to put forward advertising dollars to run a national or world wide campaigns when local customers is what they need. How is your Main Street Dry Cleaner going to attract a customer that works and lives outside a 50 to 100 mile radios of there business? It didn’t make sense, but Dexter saw an opportunity and a trend that his clients were able to take advantage of early on. Today the game has changed and Google was the game changer. There may be more than one reason why the Hampton Roads area is typically among few of Google’s test markets.
